The manor of Hampton-in-Arden was sold by Ralph de Haia to Robert de Arden or Arderne. Robert's father is called Ralph de Hamtona by Dugdale. From Robert, the manor of Hampton was passed to Robert's brother Roger de Arderne, whose grandson, Sir Hugh, son of William, held the half-fee about 1230.
