Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands, Gonzalo Menéndezwas the son of conde Hermenegildo González and his wife Muniadomna Díaz. He was killed in battle in 997 and married, as his first wife, Ilduara (Ildonza) Peláez, daughter of Pelayo González and his wife Ermesinda Gutiérrez.
