Richard de Vernon, another of Hugh Lupus's barons, was the first who settled at Shipbroke. Warin Vernon, the fifth baron in succession and son of Warin, who had married on of the co-heiresses of the Baron of Nantwich, left three daughters, co-heiresses married into the families of Wilbraham, Stafford and Littlebury. Ralph Vernon, rector of Wanwell, younger brother of Warin, had a long suit with his nieces concerning the barony, and it was at last determining by award, that Ralph should have on half of the barony, and the manor of Minshul Veron. The estate was settled by deed on his illegitimate son, Sir Ralph, who lived to the age of one hundred-fifty years, as appears by law proceeding respecting the Veron estates. This Sir Ralph had issue male, by both his first wife Mary, daughter of Lord Darce; and by Maude Grosvenor, widow of John Hatton.
