Diego de la Serna came to Santa Fe before 1626 as an aide to Governor Sotelo. He stayed in New Mexico, engaging several times in leading soldier-escorts to and from Mexico City. As a captain he was involved in the intrigues of the times, and barely escaped execution for sedition under Governor Pacheco in 1643.

Asencio de Archuleta and his wife Ana Pérez de Bustillo, daughter of Juan Pérez de Bustillo, they had one son, Juan. One daughter, María was the wife of Captain Juan Márquez.
