Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands Arnoul de Flandre was the son of Baudouin II "le Chave" count of Flanders and his wife Ælfthryth of Wessex. The second second wife of Arnould I was Adela de Vermandois, daughter of Heribert II comté de Vermandois and his wife Adela Capet. '" 'Arnulfus' is named as son of Count Baudouin II in the Cartulaire de Saint-Bertin, which specifies that he succeeded his father in 918 as Arnoul I "le Grand" Count of Flanders [Saint-Bertin II.73, 918, p. 138]. "Elstrudis comitissa…cum filiis suis Arnulfo et Adelolfo" donated "hereditatem suam Liefsham…in terra Anglorum in Cantia" to Saint-Pierre de Gand, for the soul of "senioris sui Baldwini", by charter dated 11 Sep 918 [Gand Saint-Pierre 18, p. 24, and Liber traditionum sancti Petri Blandiniensis, 60, p. 52]. The Genealogica Arnulfi Comitis names "Adelam, domni Heriberti comitis filiam" as wife of "comes Arnulfus", specifying that she was "duorum Francorum regum, Odonis atque Rotberti, neptem" [Genealogiæ Comitum Flandriæ, Witgeri Genealogica Arnulfi Comitis MGH SS IX, p. 303]. "Adala coniunx Arnulfi" is named in the Cartulaire de Saint-Bertin [Saint-Bertin II.76, 938, p. 141]. The Annales Elnonenses Minores record the marriage (undated between 931 and 949) of "Arnulfus" and "Adelam, filiam Heriberti Vermandorum comitis" [Annales Elnonenses Minores (931-949), MGH SS V, p. 19].


Arnould married Adèle de Vermandois, daughter of Herbert comte de Vermandois and Liegarde des Francs 529.,851 (Adèle de Vermandois was born in 910-915 160 and died in 960 in Buruges 160.)
