Most genealogies give Grace Makin, daughter of Tobias Makin, as the wife of Edmund Sherman, the immigrant. An article from The American Genealogist, Vol. 61, pp. 79-82 from 1983 titled "Was Tobia Makin An Ancestor of the New England Shermans?" and authored by Myrtle Stevens Hyde and Douglas Richardson, concludes that there is no documented evidence that proves this to be true or untrue.
