Melchor Jaimes de Herrera was born in Guanajuato, the son of Nicolás Jaimes de Herrera and Juana Barón. At the age of thirty he married Angela González, widow of Francisco de Ayala, in Santa Fe, March 15, 1696. They had a daughter, Juana, who married Francisco Sáiz in 1718.

A Melchor de Herrera, husband in 1714 of Catalina Griego, widow of Diego Trujillo, might be the same man. He could even be the "Manuel de Herrera" who came in 1693 with Tomás de Herrera Sandoval.

Melchor Jaimes de Herrera, soldier of this Presidio, son of Nicholas Jimes de Herrera and doña Juana Baron, natives of el Real de Guanajuato, and Ángela Gonzales (25), widow of Francisco de Ayala who was shot and killed at Villa de Jerez, daughter of Antonio Gonzles, deceased, and Ygnacia Montiel, natives of Llerena in Real de Sombrerete.

Witnesses: Antonio Gutiérrez (28), native of Zacatecas and soldier in Santa Fé; José de Contreras (41), native of San Luis; Bartolome Lobato (30), native of Zacatecas and soldier of Santa Fé, who had seen Ayala shot and then buried at Villa de Jerez; José de quiros (37), native of Sombrerete, same testimony.

Pair married 15 Mar 1696 with witnesses Francisco Montes Vigil and María Jiménez.
