Theobald I was the son of Theobald le Vieux of Blois [1], who from 908 on was viscomte of Tours [2]. Theobald le Vieux's wife, and the mother of Theobald I was Richildis, a great-granddaughter of Rorgon I, Count of Maine [1]. About 943-44 [3], he married Luitgarde of Vermandois, widow of William I of Normandy [4]. She was the daughter of Herbert II, Count of Vermandois and Hildebrand of France, daughter of king Robert I of France [5]. Her half-brother was Hugh the Great Duke of France [6].

Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands Thibaut II de Blois was the son of the first Thibaut comté de Blois. He married Luitgardis de Vermandois, widow of Buillaume "Longuespée" comté de Normandie and daughter of Heribert II comté de Vermandois and Adela Capet. "The Liber Modernorum Regum Francorum refers to the wife of "Tetbaudi comitis" as "sorore Herberti Trecorum comitis" [Hugonis Floriacensis, Liber qui Modernorum Regum Francorum continet Actus 9, MGH SS IX, p. 387]. "Theobaldi comitis…Ledgardis comitisse" subscribed the charter dated 950 under which Ragnfred Bishop of Chartres donated property to Chartres Saint-Pčre, although the relationship between the two is not specified [Chartres Saint-Pčre, Tome II, Liber Primus, 130, p. 351]. "Ledgardis" donated property to "Sancti Petri Carnotensis ecclesiam", for the souls of "senioris mei…comitis Tedbaldi…patris mei Heirberti, Trecassini comitis", with the consent of "archipresule…Hugone et…comite Odone, filiis meis", by charter dated 5 Feb 978, signed by "…Emma comitissa Pictavć urbis…" [Chartres Saint-Pčre I, Liber Tertius, Cap. VIII, p. 63]."
