Sir Nicholas Poyntz, lord of Tockington and Swell, co. Gloucester, was, trhough his grandmother, coheir of Robert Bardolf, and on his step-father's death, his mother's portion of half the barony of Curry Malet, Somerset, with one-third share of the Basset inheritance. The 1552 Visitation of Essex shows his wife as Elizabeth, daughter of Timoth Dyall. The Inq.p.m. of Nicholas Pontz, dtd. 1273, shows that he held the manors of Curry Malet, Somerset, Hoo, Kent, and Sutton, Dorset; and prior to his death, he had given the manor of Tockington, co. Gloucester, and the moiety of the manor of Dullingham, Cambridge to his son, Hugh.
