Sir Philip de Clanvowe was hereditary bailff in fee in the lordship of Gladestry, co. Radnor, deputy to to his father-in-law, Gilbert Talbot, then justice of South Wales and commissioner for Gilbert Talbot's castles. He married Gilbert's daughter Philippa and was the son of William ap Hywel who was living in 1286. Philippa Talbot and Sir Philip de Clanvowe were the parents of Elizabeth de Clanvowe who married Sir John Poyntz.
