Brien, the Progenitor of the family of Standon, held under Robert de Stafford, according to the Domesday Survey, Stantone, Rigge, Westone and Levedal in Staffordshire: Dicford in Warwickshire, and a double manor at Roscebi in Lincolnshire. All these lands were held subsequently of the Barons of the Stafford, by the family of Standon or Staundon.

• Background Information. 1438
Ditchford Frary was held in 1086 by Robert de Stafford, and of him by Brion; it was assessed at 2 hides, and had formerly been held by Leuric [V.C.H. Warw. i, 329]. The overlordship descended in the Stafford family [Chan. Inq. p.m. 10 Ric. II, no. 38; 22 Ric. II, no. 46; 38-9 Hen. VI, no. 59]. Brion, apparently the ancestor of the family of Standon [Wm. Salt Soc. n.s. vi, 7], had been succeeded by 1166 by Robert son of Ralph, who held of Robert de Stafford 7 fees, of which 2/3 fee was held by Roger de Dicheford [Red Bk. of Exch. 265]. In 1185 Adam de Standon was impleading Roger for ½ knight's fee in Ditchford [Pipe R. Soc. xxxiv, 104]. Adam died between 1194 and 1199, and his son Robert was dead by 1208, leaving an heir under age [Wm. Salt Soc. (1911), 394]. This heir was presumably Vivian de Standon, against whom Hervey de Stafford brought a suit in 1230 [Cal. Close, 1227-31, p. 392]. Hervey claimed that Vivian should render service of a knight's fee for his 2 hides in Ditchford, but in 1232 the service was fixed at half a fee [Feet of F. (Dugd. Soc. xi), 478]. Vivian still held the mesne lordship in 1242 [Bk. of Fees, 950], and on his death in 1250.
